Cheyney's Lenn Margolis to serve as ECAC-SIDA University Representative
Lenn Margolis, who has more than 20 years of experience in
athletic administration, has been added to the ECAC-SIDA Executive
Board and will serve as its second-year University
Representative.
He replaces Heather Croze of Dartmouth College, who resigned her
position due to additional responsibilities at the institution.
“The Board and membership greatly appreciate the time,
effort and contributions that Heather made during the 2009-10
academic year,” said ECAC-SIDA President Jeff
Bernstein. “We wish her well and hope that she’ll
stay involved with the organization.”
Margolis was hired as Cheyney University’s Sports
Information Director in 1999. His many responsibilities
include maintaining and updating the athletic pages of the
University’s website, pitching stories to the media,
streaming audio of athletic competition over the internet, and
producing game programs and promotional material. In
addition, Margolis was recently named to the Football Regional
Advisory Committee.
In his new role with ECAC-SIDA, Margolis will be Chairman of the
Rookie Committee, which is responsible for encouraging individuals
to pursue the sports information profession and promoting the
education and enhancement of newcomers to the field of sports
information. His committee will also maintain the Job Seekers
portion of the ECAC-SIDA website and coordinate the rookie panels
and other events specifically geared towards rookies at the annual
Workshop.
"This is definitely an honor and a highlight of my career as an
athletic communications professional,” Margolis said.
“I have great respect for the organization, and have looked
at ECAC-SIDA over the years for a lot of my professional
development. I am grateful that the board has chosen me to
fill a void. I look forward to working with this very
dedicated group."
The Rookie Committee is also responsible for selecting the
recipient of the Bill Esposito Memorial Award, which is presented
to a graduating college senior at an ECAC member institution who
intends to enter the field of collegiate sports information or
pursue a graduate degree in athletic administration.
A 1984 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Margolis
earned a BS in Sports Management and was a four-year member of the
soccer team. After graduation, he accepted a position as
Hofstra University’s Assistant Sports Information Director
and Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach, and went on to earn a
MBA.
Margolis, who was subsequently hired as the Sports Information
Director at Brooklyn College, has served on the local organizing
committee for two ECAC-SDIA workshops, as well as one CoSIDA
Workshop. He was President of the Pennsylvania State
Athletic Conference SID’s from 2007-09.
Margolis, his wife Alena and twin daughters, Bari and Jordyn,
live in Bryn Mawr, PA.
