David Alexander is in his 17th year as the Sports Information
Director at The College of Saint Rose, which honored him with a
2007 Service Excellence Award. He had Assistant Athletics Director
added to his title following the 2001-02 academic year.
Alexander directs all aspects of the Saint Rose sports information
office including media relations, website maintenance, publications
and game-day management. He directs the information flow of Saint
Rose athletics to media on a local, regional and national level and
oversees the production of media guides, game-day programs, and
athletics marketing material. Furthermore, he coordinates all
coaches and student-athlete media interviews, compiles statistics,
maintains team records, coordinates the department’s
photography requirements and directs all press table/press box
operations at Saint Rose home events.
Alexander, the only full-time SID Saint Rose has known, also
assumes several other roles aside from his regular duties within
the Saint Rose sports information office. He produces the Saint
Rose men’s and women’s basketball webcasts and is part
of the Saint Rose Magazine editorial board. He has also acted as
the Northeast Regional Coordinator for the Daktronics, Inc.
men’s basketball All-America team for the past nine years and
is chair of the ECAC II men’s basketball committee.
Alexander also served as the men's basketball and baseball
publicist for the East Coast Conference, formerly the New York
Collegiate Athletic Conference, from 1993-00. He has worked as the
Media Relations Director for six NCAA II regional basketball
championships along with the 1997 NCAA II Northeast Regional
Baseball Championship and the 1995 NCAA II East Regional
Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships that were
hosted by Saint Rose.
Additionally, Alexander acted as the Media Relations Director for
the annual Capital Key Classic men’s and women’s
basketball tournament from 1995-01. The tournament was the
nation’s largest NCAA II in-season basketball festival during
its run.
Alexander is an active member of the United States Basketball
Writers Association, the College Sports Information Directors of
America (CoSIDA) and the Public Relations Society of America.
Alexander serves on the Executive Board of the ECAC Sports
Information Directors of America (ECAC-SIDA), serves on the NCAA II
Northeast Region Baseball Championship Committee and does volunteer
work locally with the New York State Special Olympics.
Alexander worked as a media liaison at the 2001 NCAA Frozen Four in
Albany and the 2006 and 2007 NCAA II men’s basketball
“Elite Eight” national championships in Springfield,
MA. Furthermore, CoSIDA cited him with a regional award for
publication excellence in recognition of his 2001-02 men’s
basketball media guide.
A 1986 graduate of the University of Rhode Island where he earned a
bachelor’s degree in journalism, Alexander has worked as a
sportswriter for The Westerly Sun in his native Rhode Island and
for The Capital in Annapolis, MD. He has also served as an
assistant in the sports information offices at Rhode Island and the
University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
